How to unlock pdf

  1. Choose one PDF you are allowed to open.
  2. Type the password you normally use to open it. Leave it empty for files that open without a password but block editing.
  3. Press Unlock. Each page is decrypted, redrawn and saved into a fresh file.
  4. Download the unlocked PDF.

What unlocking can and cannot do

This tool works only on documents you can already open. That is the whole point: it takes the password you legitimately use, decrypts the pages in your browser, and writes a new file without the lock. It is not a cracking tool, and there is no path here to someone else's protected documents.

The honest tradeoff: the unlocked copy is a faithful redraw of every page at 144 DPI, so it looks the same everywhere, but text is no longer selectable or searchable, like a well-scanned document. Keep the original for anything you may need to copy from later.

The jobs it exists for: an old contract you still hold the password to but whose source is gone, a form you need to print without the viewer nagging, and documents a departed colleague locked with a password they left behind in the team vault.

Limits and honest notes

A wrong password is reported immediately; nothing is guessed or brute-forced. Files that open without a password can be unlocked by leaving the field empty.

Up to 25 MB per document, one at a time. Decryption and the rebuild happen in this tab; the password exists only in memory for the moment it takes to open the file.

Frequently asked questions

Can this tool crack a password I do not know?

No, and that is by design. It unlocks documents you can already open, using the password you already have.

Why is the text not selectable afterwards?

The unlocked copy is a page-by-page redraw at 144 DPI, which is what removes the lock without the original structure. It prints and reads perfectly; it does not copy text.

The password is correct but it still fails.

Some documents use a separate permissions password. The tool asks for the one that opens the file; if your viewer opens it without asking, leave the field empty.

Is my password uploaded?

Never. It is used inside your browser for the decryption and then discarded.

Private by design

Stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser: open the Network tab while you convert and you will see that nothing is sent. No account, no watermark, no daily limit.
