How to word to pdf
- Choose your .docx file, or drop it on the page. Only Word documents created by Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice in the modern .docx format work.
- Press Convert. The document is read, cleaned and re-laid out as an A4 PDF, entirely in your browser.
- Download the PDF, or press Start over to convert another file.
About this conversion
The document is parsed with the open-source Mammoth library, which reads a .docx and produces clean HTML: headings keep their levels, bullet and numbered lists keep their structure, tables keep their cells, and embedded images are inlined. The HTML is then sanitised with DOMPurify before anything is rendered, so nothing unexpected can execute.
The cleaned document is rendered off-screen and printed to PDF on an A4 page (or Letter, your choice). The result is a real PDF you can open, print, sign or upload anywhere — built entirely inside this tab.
This is the honest way to say it: the PDF looks like a well-printed copy of your document. Fonts are mapped to close equivalents, and pixel-perfect fidelity with the Word view is not the goal — a readable, shareable, print-ready PDF is.
Limits and honest notes
Complex layouts can shift: multi-column designs, text boxes, tracked-changes markers and WordArt do not survive the HTML intermediate. Headers and footers of the source document are not copied. For pixel-perfect fidelity, print to PDF from Word itself; for a fast, private, good-looking PDF without a Word licence, this is the tool.
One document per run, up to 50 MB each. Very long documents (hundreds of pages) take longer because the whole layout is rendered before the PDF is written.
The conversion runs entirely in your browser with WebAssembly and canvas rendering. Nothing is uploaded — open the Network tab and watch: no request carries your document.
Frequently asked questions
Are tracked changes and comments converted?
No. The converter reads the clean, accepted state of the document. Accept or reject changes in Word first if they should be part of the PDF.
Why does the PDF look slightly different from Word?
The document is re-laid out for an A4 page with matching fonts, not a pixel copy of the Word view. Headings, lists, tables and images all carry over; exotic positioning does not.
My .doc file will not load.
Only the modern .docx format is supported. Open the file in Word or LibreOffice, save it as .docx, then convert.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere — verify it in the Network tab.
Private by design
Stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser: open the Network tab while you convert and you will see that nothing is sent. No account, no watermark, no daily limit.
